woke up with antony and the johnsons in my head, knew that wasn't a good start

a friend was once toting around a weathered copy of a 70s life manual called "keeping the black dog at bay". euphemisms are great. I think he was being ironic but there's usually a little bit of truth behind the joke, like when you buy the kama sutra for your mate's 18th birthday but have a sneaky scan before you wrap it, just to be sure you're not missing out on something.

so, to the task of keeping the black dog at bay. tempted myself out of bed with breakfast (that old double-edged sword), forced myself to walk to spotlight to buy this:

in service of the task of turning these obnoxiously-hued clothes into something a bit moody autumnal. also something that would match green hair, s'all I'm saying.

the fabric didn't lighten that much, I don't know it was worth the 12.95. I spent up big and bought two brown sachets, the natural and the poly, and stewed it on the stove like Charlie Bucket's crooning mama (confusing and distracting laundry methods, it's the hopelessly devoted to you scene of willy wonka, definite FF)

toxic soup. I added a cup of salt and boiled for an hour or so.

to keep things sufficiently distracting I'm watching this:

which is truly not one of the series' highlights. has this kind of ny v la angle that I'm trying to make sense of, the nypd is the bumbling, bureaucratic behemoth and mcclane is the testosterone-sweating west coast grass roots good cop with the bad rep who puts them to shame. might just be a straight up western/fight club man from the wild trope with cities arbitrarily associated. I can't really concentrate enough to be sure.

coming home to this

and this

is pretty amazing.
